I love playfully confronting clients.
I tell them they’re not allowed to work on their goals for 3 years!! “No! Don’t do it! You’re not allowed!!”
This, usually, connects them with the DESIRE for the goal.
Instead of feeling like “I should work on this goal,” they come in contact with the part of them that set the goal in the first place.
And then I switch my energy and help them deeply reconnect with this desire and what their desire wants them to know.
Confronting clients can be deeply healing work.
And there’s an art to knowing when you have a relationship that can handle confrontation.
Sometimes gentleness is what’s needed.
Sometimes respecting a client’s boundary is the most powerful thing you can do.
And other times confronting them is what’s called for…
I don’t always get it right. Sometimes I’m too soft with clients and other times I’m too confrontational.
Talking with a colleague or supervisor afterwards helps me to hone the skill of when to soften and when to push. And sometimes I apologize after the fact.
