In 2018, I was living off my line of credit. Every month I was losing more and more money but I didn’t want to look at it.
I’d quit my job and thought with more time I’d be able to build up my new coaching business. Every day I sat on my laptop and worked. And I started to have little bits of success selling a $400 coaching package here and there but it wasn’t enough.
I kept thinking, “Next month will be better. Next month I’ll break through.”
My line of credit was running out and so I finally admitted to my therapist I was in financial trouble. She helped me look at the facts and make a plan.
I moved out of my gorgeous 20th floor apartment with a balcony overlooking the lake and moved into a peaceful house with roommates. I got a day job at a restaurant. And I was able to mostly stop using my line of credit to make ends meet.
And then gradually I was able to make more and more money in my business. Here’s how to use manifest money from an intersectional feminist point of view:
1) Decolonize patriarchal money thoughts
When I was working at the restaurant and working on my business part time my biggest problem was every day thinking:
I’m terrible at sales.
I’m terrible at marketing.
Entrepreneurship is NOT in my DNA.
I don’t know how to EARN MORE MONEY
So it was very difficult to get much work done because I thought it’d be shitty quality and not really work…
I didn’t see many examples of female entrepreneurs growing up so I thought I had to be successful, I had to be brash like GaryVee or Mark Cuban…
And women are socialized to solve money problems by scrimping and couponing but not by earning more and negotiating.
So to earn more money, I had to become aware of all these patriarchal thoughts that were holding me back.
2) Connect to Sacred Debt
At that time I’m also:
-
-
- I’m ashamed of my debt
- And I don’t trust myself with my money, credit cards and lines of credit
-
But debt shame is actually classism in disguise.
If you come from wealth and buy a nice sweater, you’re seen as responsible.
If you come from less wealth and buy a nice sweater by putting it on a credit card, you’re seen as irresponsible.
This is classism.
And women were not legally “trusted” with credit cards until the 1970s.
So you don’t have to LOVE your debt, but start to see it’s nothing to be ashamed of and that you can learn to trust yourself with it.
3) Talk to the Spirit of Money
The spirit of money wants to connect with you. So light a candle or take some deep breaths to get into a sacred space.
Then in your journal, ask her any question you want and wait for her response. Here’s an example:
Bryn: I want to go to the hypnosis conference but I can’t afford it.
Spirit of money: why don’t you decide exactly how much money you’d need to go and then go do a manifestation experiment? manifest the money in the most fun ethical way possible?
Bryn: okay, I don’t really feel like doing math
SOM: do the math
B: okay, if I sign 3.5 clients or have 5 ppl enroll in the somatics certification before July 8th, I’ll book the trip. Conference is July 21st so it gives me time to gently plan.
SOM: yessss, go forth and manifest it . ball of energy sales. all fun all ethical all the time !! And be open to the money falling into your lap any other way with airplane points etc…
Ask the spirit of money anything and wait for her response. She’ll lead you to a more thriving business and more peaceful life.
And if you want even more support with this, I’m opening up a few one on one spots to work with me specifically on manifesting more money in a trauma informed and feminist way.
If you’d like to explore whether that’s the right fit for you, I’d love to hop on a free consult to get to know you better. I guarantee you’ll have a money breakthrough right on the call and it’s an opportunity for us both to get to know each other better and feel into whether we’re an energetic match :).
Love,
Bryn
