The Patriarchal Success Myth

I think that things on the outside will make me happy:

      • making $100K
      • going viral on TikTok
      • getting interviewed by Oprah

But sometimes the opposite is true. Kelly Clarkson said one of the hardest times was on tour for Breakaway.

She was rich, playing sold out shows and crying on the bathroom floor of her hotel room. Her team was pushing her to the point of exhaustion and she didn’t know she could say no.

So many singers would have killed to be her. And Kelly said it was one of the worst periods of her life.

When I make a million dollars, I’ll be happy. But I won’t be happier than I am now with my relatively successful business and roommates who sometimes annoy me.

That doesn’t mean I give up on my $1M goal.

But there’s no rush. I have great friends now, I get to dance often now, I have a great partner, I get to eat healthy yummy food and full-on junk food. I’m already rich.

I have debt but it’s not a crippling amount and I’m paying it off. And I live at a time where I can access debt to invest in myself without the co-signing of a man. I’m already rich.

And I’m ambitious af. I wanna be the best somatic practitioner in the world. I wanna steward a huge community to heal in an ethical, DEI informed way. I wanna fail publicly and be humble enough to learn from my failure. I wanna protect myself from vengeful criticism and be open to the constructive kind. I wanna make a lot of money.

And there’s no rush. If my intuition guides me away from any of these goals, I’ll trust that too.

The capitalist patriarchy tells you, you’ll be happy when you:

      • Lose the weight
      • Pay off the debt
      • Get married
      • And impact THE MOST PPL

To destabilize the patriarchy, be happy now. What’s one thing you’re happy about today? Email or DM me and we’ll celebrate together!

Let’s blow this bullsht up.
