Free Ticket to Vegas

I walked into my Vegas hotel room. There was a mirror on the ceiling. A glass shower with a flimsy half-closed curtain. And just one giant bed. Yikes.

I’d never met my roommate before. We’d only spoken on the phone once. And now, we were about to share what was very clearly a honeymoon suite.

So how did I get here?

I somehow manifested a free plane ticket, a new friendship, and a life-changing experience in Vegas… let me tell you the story…

I was walking in the ravine near my house, when I got a second message from Natalie, a woman I barely knew on Facebook.

She wrote…

Her initial message was how much flights from Toronto to Vegas for a mystical marketing workshop we were both considering attending. I hadn’t replied…

Then she wrote again saying she had airline points and could help me get to Vegas. I was shocked.

We met in a FB group and she occasionally commented on my posts but I didn’t know anything about her.

But I liked her comments and was moved by her generosity. And I really wanted to go to the workshop!

So, I said hell yes!

She already had a hotel room and offered to share. I decided to trust my intuition and said yes despite barely knowing each other.

So how did I manifest a $800 plane ticket to Vegas for free?

Here’s how:

1) Shared Random Thoughts

I post a lot on FB, thanks to my business coach Simone Seol’s ‘Garbage Post Challenge,’ which encourages posting 100 times in 30 days without overthinking.

Natalie isn’t a big poster, so I barely knew her, but she knew a lot about me. She saw my posts about wanting to go to the workshop but hesitating due to expensive flights, so she reached out.

We met in the lobby of the hotel and she gave me my key. And when we walked in—it was a honeymoon suite. Mirror on the ceiling. Glass shower with a flimsy curtain.

And yet, it all worked out. The workshop was great, and every night, we’d meet back in the room and talk until midnight when we’d force ourselves to go to sleep, even though we had more to talk about.

2) Stop Being Corporate

I used to think marketing and networking were stiff and corporate—suits, boardrooms, small talk with people you don’t like, trying to get them to donate or collaborate. I hated it. But what I did was the complete opposite… I talked about SW, peeing on cash, hating DJT and she was drawn to friendship with the real me.

3) No Extractive Sales

I’ve been to networking events where people immediately launch into a sales pitches. And the same thing happens on FB & IG. It feels extractive, like they only see you as a transaction.

But true connection is just being yourself and sharing your life—whether it’s:

– about getting frustrated with ChatGPT and wanting to throw your computer off a high rise
– rage about the tangerine man’s recent actions
–  or being excited about an upcoming dance class

And yes, I would sell my services on Facebook… but I did so much more than just that!

Natalie got to know lots of random shit about me and decided she wanted me to be her business bestie at that workshop!

4) Build Deep Connections

I call this “slow networking.” The best clients are the ones who know me first and resonate with my energy.

A mentor once told me to go to the same networking event repeatedly instead of bouncing between different ones. And that’s what I do on Facebook too. Natalie had been “friends on FB” for YEARS before reaching out to offer her points.

Deep relationships form over time. And that’s how you get referrals, new clients, or even a free plane ticket.

The Coolest Part

The best part of this experience is that Natalie and I are biz besties to this day. We text everyday and call each other in the hard moments.
