Inner Critic

Last week when I made a mistake, my inner critic came at me. Told me all the reasons I suck and I’ll never achieve my sacred goal.

I crawled under the covers and binged Selling Sunset…

Your inner critic can be one of the biggest challenges to achieving your sacred goal.

Here’s what’s helped:

    1. Acknowledge

Your inner critic is a scared or angry part of you. You want to treat them like a little kid who’s really scared and so is being mean.

Put your hand on your heart and say, “I hear that you’re scared but you don’t get to call me names.”
    2. Complete the Stress Cycle

The stress cycle has a beginning, a middle and an end. Once it starts, you need to complete the cycle.

In the olden days it would be triggered by a tiger, you’d run away, find safety and the running would complete the cycle. But now it can come from an email. To complete the cycle move your body in a way that feels good. It could be:

      – walking
      – dancing
      – or doing a Youtube aerobics class

It can take as little as 5 minutes and you’ll feel a sense of calm in your body when you’ve completed.
    3. Love Your Inner Critic

This part of you is acting up because they need love. They probably didn’t get enough love or attention when you were growing up, so they’re asking for it from you now.

It can help to look at a picture of yourself when you were young or close your eyes and imagine. Put your hand on your heart again and send love to this young part. Talk to them and listen for their responses. And then return to your goal.
