If you were socialized as a women you were taught:
-
-
- To be nice and polite
- If you challenge the status quo, you’re pushy, bitchy and bossy
- Be generous, don’t charge much or at all for your art
-
This makes it hard to put creative new ideas or works into the world. And when women do, there’s pushback.
Ex. When a woman writes a memoir people ask her about hurting the two family members who might be upset, not the thousands of women her story might help.
This is such an important conversation and so I invited Brooke Warner, 13 year publishing industry veteran and coach for women memoirists, to talk about common roadblocks in the creative process, the importance of truth telling and how many of these blocks were created by the patriarchy.
If you’re a creative, you’re going to get so much out of this episode.
