Lupins

bringers of spring
filling ditches
decorating roadsides
planted by the wind

unkempt
wildness
sprawling bright beauty

lupins
grown beside Mary
carefully tended
colorful

cut back
in high summer
to make space
for the next floral flush

lupins
seeds hard like black beans
spread out on the table
placed into packages

stored
dry
for the winter.
