Pleasure in Times of Uncertainty

You’re navigating a collective trauma. The physical, mental, and financial struggles are real. The grief, pain, and fear are present.

And you deserve moments of joy and pleasure.

Slowly drinking your tea. Feeling the sunshine on your face. FaceTiming with a good friend. Dancing to your favourite song.

You deserve moments of pleasure and joy.

The pandemic is likely triggering your defenses and your defenses will take you into fight or flight or numbness. Your defenses take you away from pleasure.

Making space for pleasure is a radical act of self care and healing. And the world needs radical self care and healing. You need radical self care and healing.

The second wave of the pandemic is the impact on mental health. It’s more important than ever that you take care of your mental health.

For you. And for the people you love.

Make space for moments of pleasure:

Let the dark chocolate melt on your tongue.

Turn off all the lights, lie on your back, and put on your favourite song.

Gently brush your own hair away from your face.

In this moment, bring your breath all the way into your pelvis.

And I want to support you, to even at this time of great uncertainty and pain, to connect with your pleasure.

And that’s why I’m running a workshop called Pleasure in Times of Uncertainty.

      • Do you deny or judge yourself for having fun?
      • Is it challenging for you to find healthy forms of pleasure without feeling shame?
      • Does your overwhelming feeling of uncertainty keep you from accessing your joy?

In this two-part workshop, you’ll explore what you were taught about pleasure as a child. This will help you to see what might be blocking your pleasure and joy now.

I’ll be co-facilitating with Richard Kwan, who cares deeply about this work and brings his heart to all the workshops he runs.

You’ll be guided through exercises that will help you connect to your pleasure and also help you learn about what blocks you from accessing it.

This work is somatic and emotional and will support you to dive deeply into your own heart.

And whether you come to the workshop or not, I really want to encourage you to take moments to give yourself space for pleasure and joy.

Give yourself an extra 10 minutes in the morning, make time for a bath, take a deep breath right now, and ask what can bring me more tiny beautiful moments of pleasure. And give yourself permission to do that.
