The Self Care Industrial Complex

Many women I know say things to me like:

      • I need a morning routine
      • I spend too much time on my phone
      • I should do more yoga
      • I should work on my sleep habits

Self care has become, for many, another item on THE TO DO LIST.  It’s become another thing to beat yourself up about.

It’s a $4 TRILLION dollar industry (according to the Global Wellness Institute.) So you’re being sold that you’re not whole until you have the steel water bottle, pilates class, and aromatherapy diffuser.

You don’t have to be a perfect self-care robot who posts a happy selfie with a green smoothie in hand.

You get to be a human being with ups and downs. High energy days and low energy days. Chocolate bars days, smoothies days, and everything in between.

Instead of self care, I propose: self-joy, self-pleasure, and self-calm.

Ask yourself: what would make today a little more joyful? What would bring more pleasure into my day? What would bring more peace?

Sometimes this is Netflix and popcorn, other times it’s going for a walk in the spring weather. It can be ordering in a healthy delicious meal or masturbating in the shower or lying down in bed while you do your emailing.

It’s not that you’ll never want to meditate but the desire will come from a place of joy, not from a feeling of not being good enough and needing to fix yourself with the perfect morning routine.

So FUCK the Self-Care Industrial Complex.

And say yes to self-PLEASURE, self-FUN, and self-CALM.

Bryn

P.S. If you need some help feeling better WITHOUT the perfect morning routine, reach out. My clients find as they see more clearly what’s happening emotionally, they’re able to FEEL BETTER even on days when they eat pizza and watch Netflix. We look at the patterns and habits from childhood that are making things more difficult for you, and as my clients heal those patterns they find they can:

      • Easily land a job they love
      • Fall in love, when they thought that wasn’t possible
      • Start a profitable business that they’re passionate about

If you want things to feel easier and you’re ready for some support at this stage of your healing journey, reach out. We’ll do a free one-hour call to look at what your dreams are and what’ll best support you to get there.
