To change how much money you have access to, you can:
-
-
- Spend less
- Or earn more
-
Folks socialized as women are taught to spend less, while folks socialized as men are taught to earn more.
Compliment a woman’s sweater and she says, “I got it on sale!”
How many times has that happened with a man?
There’s even research that women’s magazines focus on coupons or borrowing from parents, whereas men’s magazines have articles on negotiating or investments.
You were taught to:
-
-
- find the sale
- use coupons
- and don’t be a shopaholic!!
-
Men and women have compulsive buying disorder at similar rates but Carrie Fisher and Rebecca Bloomwood teach us that women are “out of control with spending.”
Why does this matter?
This socialization contributes to the wage gap. And this socialization results with women having less money on average when they retire.
Because there’s a limit to how much you can save but NO LIMIT on how much more you can earn.
Ex. A woman on Extreme Couponing can get an $800 bill down to $12 BUT… if she put all that time and energy into getting a raise or a side hustle, she could earn WAY MORE than the $788.
So what if you took the sales, coupons, spending restriction brain space and used it for fun, creative, juicy ways to increase your income?
You could:
-
-
- sell a sx and creativity course
- write a book on plant spirits
- start a professional cuddling biz
- or increase your rate/ask for a raise
-
