Prioritizing Health

DSCF1604

In 2016, I lay on the dance floor in excruciating pain. Why was this happening to me? What had I done wrong? Would I ever be pain free again?

A couple of weeks before I over extended my back while doing acro-yoga with some new friends. I was trying to do whale pose where you bend over backwards and grab your ankles. It hurt but I didn’t let go. I wanted my new friends to think I was good at acro.

Then, weeks later, a little soreness had turned into persistent pain and peaked the day it combined with period cramps. I ended up lying on the dance floor asking “Why me?”

Health is such a precious gift, that we often don’t appreciate until it’s gone.  The days that I wake up well rested and my body feels good, I feel like a million dollars.  I feel like I can take on the world with determination and gentleness.

It’s so easy to put other things before your health: sitting far too long at your desk to finish a project and then meeting a friend for a glass of wine turns into many glasses. You wake up in the morning with a sore back and a headache.  You wake up grumpy with the world.

What is the courageous baby step you can take for your health?
