Selena Gomez canceled the Revival Tour after doing 55 shows in North America, Asia & Australia from May 6th – Aug 13th, 2016.
I set recovery time after I run a 2-day workshop with 25 people.
I can’t imagine playing SOLD OUT STADIUMS, daily meet and greets, constant travel and hounding by the paparazzi about her breakup with Justin Beiber.
After the tour, she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. And I’m all for psychiatric medication and diagnosis.
And we also need to ask about the circumstances that lead to a breakdown.
Patriarchal productivity addiction is incessant. If you were socialized as a woman, you’re taught:
-
-
-
If you prioritize your needs, you’re a diva
-
If you set a boundary, you’re a bitch
-
If you delegate tasks, you’re bossy
-
-
And Selena Gomez was trying desperately to not be a diva, bossy or a bitch and that led her to a mental health crisis.
And it might be leading your clients (or you…) to a similar breaking point.
So how do we heal this?

Awareness
Teach your clients about the patriarchal productivity addiction so they understand why they have the impulse to constantly be taking care of everyone else and feel guilty saying no or taking time for themselves.
-
Say No
Take baby steps towards time off, rest, canceling coffee dates last minute and calling in sick.
-
Community
Find other amazing folks who understand how the patriarchy is fucking with us and tell your clients to teach their friends these concepts so they’re not fighting this fight on their own.
They need community to tell them they’re not crazy when they’re in this struggle at work or with their partner.

Somatic Tools
Somatic tools literally get the patriarchal conditioning out of the body, so come to the FREE WORKSHOP SERIES: Somatics to Heal Patriarchy.
Tomorrow’s workshop (Thurs) at 10 am ET focuses on the Patriarchal Productivity Addiction.
