the grasshopper
poised
slender wrists
ready to attack
she viciously rips off the head of her mate.

I inhale
hold my breath
remember to breathe
let go
will we make it?
the plane takes off
my stomach drops
I am free.

it runs down my hand
and I lean down quickly
to lick the drip.
you laugh
as I try remain dignified.
we sit on the sidewalk
and nothing else matters.
he asks her
as they sit across from one another
at the cafe
when can speech be silent?

feel the softness
feel the love we once had
feel the stabbing pain in my heart
feel.
muggy day
I breath in
your car
exhaust
biking
sweat drips
down my back
I am late.
the base boards sparkle
and I am in love
with my new house
clean
open
fresh
inviting
spacious
my arm is sore.

or do I want my free bird life?
flitting from interest
to delight
to out late again
babies
bring out a side of me
unseen.

at midnight
dead on the road
smell
seeps
into the car.
and why is it that we are sadder when we see a dead cat?
skunks
look at his eye lashes!
they’re so beautiful!
I try to tell him to stay back
too late.
