Money and Abandonment

I have abandonment issues.

And I realized that the best way for me to deal as a child was to ask for less, expect less, suppress my needs because if I was too “needy” (it’s healthy for kids to have tons of needs) the person who I needed withdraw even deeper.

And so I learned, need less and you’ll at least get something.

But this week I realized how this affects how I spend money.

I’m thinking about going on a trip, just for fun, over the holidays.

And that terrifies me.

To spend a good chunk of money on something that’s so incredibly nonessential feels insane.

And typically when I run into financial issues, I think the solution is to spend less. I don’t consider that the solution could be to earn more.

I’m putting my abandonment issues from childhood, onto money.

As a child, if I had fewer needs, I’d be okay.

And as an adult, I think if I need less from money, I’ll be okay.

So I want to be curious about this.

I want to learn more about the shit I’m projecting onto money.

And I want to develop a healthy relationship where I’m allowed to need money even as I sometimes am more prudent and sometimes focus on building my savings.

And you can too. Check out my two free workshops on healing money blocks:
